We’re on a mission to give pets healthier, safer products. Our first priority is the health and well-being of your pet — your beloved animal companions.
Our deep and genuine commitment to holistic pet care is what separates us from other pet care boutiques. The words wholesome, natural, and quality describe a way of life for us, not marketing hype. We only offer you safe, high-quality products, made in the US.
I’m Dana Mayer, founder of Fifi and Fido and I’ve been an ecopreneur and wellness blogger for over 14 years. This isn’t a trend I’m trying to get rich on – it is a mission and commitment I’ve made to a lifestyle. The “healthspan” of an animal is not just about tacking on years, it’s about living a long and healthy life. 33% percent of pet owners say healthspan is their top concern for their fur babies. Fifi & Fido agree!
We research all the products we sell and we get the input of holistic vets with nutritional expertise. Healthy pet products include:
- Healthy dog and cat food, no artificial preservatives, no junk.
- Nutritional supplements.
- Herbal grooming supplies.
- Training and junk-food-free treats. No meat from China!
- Safe leashes.
After the pet food recall in 2007, Jim and I started to wonder where that food was being made and what ingredients were going into their dog’s food and treats. Jim rescued a dog named Bella who had been free-range and was underweight, as are many wild wolves, dogs, and coyotes who eat a wild diet. To make matters worse, she was picky about what she would eat. We could coax her to eat raw meat, but I disliked the “ick factor.” And home cooked dog food or raw pet food just wasn’t practical for us, it took too much time and money.
We spent months looking for a dog food for Bella that had not been recalled and did not have toxins like BPA, preservatives, or antibiotics from feedlot or CAFO meat. Finally, I came across an online pet food comparison tool that showed how the dry dog food we used compared to a pet super-food called, Life’s Abundance. Not only was Life’s Abundance less expensive, it offered advanced nutrition including pre and pro-biotics and antioxidants.
Dr. Jane Bicks, a holistic veterinarian, helped me understand pet nutrition. More importantly, she and the company founders explained the traditional business model of the pet food industry and why they refuse to use it.
I did not know the extent that pet products could actually endanger my pet’s life. Retail stores may keep food in warehouses or tractor trailers without climate control. Companies are not required to test any chemicals used in products. And the majority of pet food manufacturers use the 4-Ds as ingredients–Dying, Diseased, Drugged, Deformed. Watch this short documentary about what the pet food industry doesn’t want us to know.
I had not heard of Life’s Abundance even though the company has been around for 14 years. Perhaps I didn’t know about it because the products are not sold in big-box stores or maybe it was because the company name changed in 2011 from HealthyPetNet. But I felt confident ordering the food online because of the “Safe Shopper Guarantee.”
When the first box arrived, Bella scratched at it before we could open the box. I’d never seen her do that before and she’s never done it since with any other food. And I review lots of dog foods.
She was already eating before I could fill her bowl. You’d never guess she’d been a finicky eater!
Within seven weeks her weight normalized and she had a shinier coat. I could see she was thriving on good nutrition from US ingredients.
The best part was doing good with my money. I am proud that part of the proceeds from each purchase helps abandoned and abused animals. Life’s Abundance contributes a portion of every sale to Dr. Jane’s Foundation which make awards to pet rescue groups.*
After the first box of goodies from Life’s Abundance, Jim and I told Bella’s story to pretty much anyone who would listen. One guy patiently let me bend his ear and when I finished, he asked me why I didn’t just work for Life’s Abundance. “You’re selling their dog food anyway!”
That gave me the idea to start an indie biz for pet wellness. Not just to make money online, but so that companion animals can live longer, healthier lives. Soon, other pet wellness professionals teamed up with me, including dog trainers, pet sitters, and pet professionals like Joyce Rheal, Rosemary Mannino and Sioux Benson.
Sioux’s mother was a Chihuahua AKC breeder and her father bred Great Danes. Sioux remembers a time when there were 65 Chihuahuas in the 24-room farmhouse!

What we all have in common at Fifi & Fido is we’ve seen the benefits of holistic nutrition. Dr. Jane Bicks helped all of us clear up allergies, hot spots, and adjust weight problems in our pets.
We also learned that holistic, natural products often costs less than you pay for premium brand pet products and certainly cost less than the painful, long-term health care expenses caused by many manufactured products.
